Planning your Wedding | The Exit

Planning your Wedding | The Exit

Over the years I’ve seen some pretty cool exits, and I want to encourage you to own this part of your wedding day and make it YOU. One way to do that is think outside the box when it comes to what you hand out to your guests. The two most common things I see are sparklers and bubbles. Sparkles are popular for night exits and bubbles for afternoon exits. Both are gorgeous and it’s nice that sparklers create some of their own light when it’s so dark outside. If you LOVE the way bubbles or sparklers look and you love them, absolutely go for it. But if you’re choosing them because you feel like you don’t have any other options, I promise that’s not the case! Is your wedding really colorful? Consider having guests throw flower petals (real or silk) or confetti to incorporate some of your wedding colors into your exit like Joel and Anne did.

I’ve also seen people throw rice, birdseed, and even rainbow sprinkles. Those were awesome and did show up in the photographs! I have a flash set-up that will allow me to capture these things even if it’s dark outside, but if you are wanting something other than sparklers that create light, what about glow sticks or paper lanterns? If you do use sparklers, make sure to get the long, wedding sparklers. They give a warmer light than the regular short ones and burn much longer. Make sure you have several people lighting so the first ones don’t go out before the last ones are lit! I’ve also seen people give their guests ribbon wands or streamer poppers. If you like the idea of streamers, but don’t want all that clean-up, check up what Tara and Daniel did for their exit:

They had their guests stand in their lines and then had some friends run streamers back and forth for them to run through! It super fun and super them. Another way I try to help my couples’ personalities come out in their exit is asking them to pause in the middle of the exit and strike a pose. If they don’t have any ideas, they usually stop and kiss, and there is nothing wrong with that. That’s a great photo! But if you and your fiancé are super silly, what about doing something like this? You can kiss too if you want that photo as well, but this post is all about making your exit YOU. The sky’s the limit. =)
