October Goals

Oh, October, you’re here at last. You might be my favorite month of the year. Or you might be tied with April, which also has good weather AND my birthday. We’ll see how you do this year and I’ll let you know.

I’m excited about all the things I have planned this month and the wonderful people I’ll get to work with. For photography, it’s family photo sessions as often as I can get them in, and I have one wedding at a vineyard near the beach and one in the mountains. For Stephen and I, we’re going to the beach with his family one weekend, we’ll go to the state fair, and I’ll get to see my parents in Winston-Salem another weekend. Awesome, right? But also, CRAZY. I saw a Facebook meme this week that October is to a photographer like April is to an accountant, and it’s so true! I’m hoping since I know it’s coming it won’t be too stressful, but you never can tell with October. Here we go!

Done:

  • Blog weddings within a week – My new goal for this fall’s weddings has been to blog within a week of shooting. There are a lot of reasons why I want to make this a habit, and so far so good! The real test will come this month when I have several family photo sessions in the editing queue and two weddings on back to back weekends. All the more reason to get it blogged within a week, right?

To-do:

  • Stay of top of editing while maintaining a good work-life balance – I said it last month, and I’ll say it again because September and October are consistently my busiest months of the year. I don’t want to get behind and get stressed OR forget to take care of myself.
  • Deliver each weekend’s family sessions before the next weekend’s shoots – This is a tall order, I know, but if I can do it I can avoid the stress of having mountains of editing hanging over my head. I’ve got three more days to get it done this week!
  • Plan something fun – I feel like it’s been a crazy fall already and it’s only October 4th. Stephen’s been super busy with school, and me with work, and sometimes it feels like the busy will never end. But I love seeing new places with Stephen (and planning trips!), and I think having a getaway to look forward to in the coming months would do us a lot of good.
