May Goals 2018

Looking back at my list of April goals is a little depressing. April was a lot busier than I’d anticipated, and I didn’t do a good job of prioritizing the important stuff. You know how it is: it’s easier to accomplish the small tasks, so that’s what ends up getting done. It’s always been easier for me to finish the day-to-day to-dos than to think big picture, but that’s why I need to push myself in that area.

Personally this month we’ll be celebrating both of our dad’s birthdays, mother’s day and graduation for two of our siblings. My sister is graduating from Appalachian State so we’ll get to spend a whole weekend in Boone celebrating with my family. And our brother-in-law is graduating from UNC law. It’s been a busy couple of months for him with the new baby and trying to finish school, but he did it!! We’re so proud of both of them and so excited to celebrate with them. Also this month, Stephen is taking a class in Washington, DC for a week so it’ll just be Sadie and me. Don’t tell her, but I’m going to take this opportunity to take her to the vet.

Goals for this Month:

Watch KJ All Access Videos – This is one of those big picture things that always gets pushed to the back burner. Emails waiting to be answered and photos waiting to be edited feel much more pressing, but I’m determined to catch up on the educational videos this month!  I actually think this is one of the best ways for me to stay fresh and inspired in the midst of busy season, so it’s even more important!!

Finish The Hidden Oracle – I ended up starting this book instead of Anne of Green Gables last month, but I’ve kind of stalled out on reading. I’m trying to keep my goal reasonable for this month because I have three weddings (four if you count the one on June 1), but I think I can at least finish this book.

Keep the Administrative Stuff Organized – One thing I always forget when I have 3 or 4 weddings close together is that that means I have the work leading up to 3-4 weddings close together. I’m talking about questionnaires, timelines, timeline phone calls, etc. I’ve already done timeline phone calls for my three May weddings, but I’ve got to stay on top of all these details for the other ones I have coming up. However, this is easier for me than some of my other goals, which is why I listed it last.

Done:

Deliver UNC sessions – I shot my last few this week, but they’ve already been sent off. One of the nice things about shooting in the same places over and over is that the light (and the editing) aren’t ever a surprise anymore. I know how to do a great job, and that makes post-production that much easier.
