Navy Barn Wedding | Sarah + Jordan

Navy Barn Wedding

Navy Barn Wedding

It’s not a wedding day if something isn’t running behind, right? I got to the venue about half an hour before I was supposed to start shooting as I always do and started looking around. It was a very hot an very sunny day so I knew I’d have to be strategic about where to do portraits at 1pm, especially with the large wedding party they had. When I had made those decisions I went up to the barn to start shooting detail photos only to learn that Sarah wasn’t there yet! Things had gotten behind with hair and makeup, but that’s just the way it goes sometimes and on a wedding day you just have to roll with the punches. I started photographing all the ceremony and reception details I could until Sarah got there, and thankfully it didn’t take her long to get ready and then we were right back on track.

We did pretty much all the portraits before the ceremony under a big (oak, I think) tree with a wooden swing. It was a really beautiful spot and provided plenty of shade to soften the light and keep us cool(er). The ceremony was really sweet and both Jordan and Sarah got a little teary-eyed, and the reception was a blast! A lot of Jordan’s family came from the Philippines, and they were clearly having a fantastic time celebrating together!!

Sarah and Jordan met during college while working at a summer camp. They were from different states and went to different schools, but they hit it off. Their faith is very important to them and was something they quickly bonded over. They weren’t allowed to date during camp, but it didn’t take long after camp ended for them to get together. Their schools weren’t too far apart, and Jordan often visited Sarah at UNC on the weekends. One of his many visits Sarah took him on a tour of McCorkle Place and told him all about Davy Poplar and “the kissing bench,” where, legend has it, if a couple kisses, they are destined to get married. Jordan knew that would be the perfect place to propose, and right before Sarah went to study abroad he popped the question! These two really are as sweet as can be, and it was a joy to be a part of their wedding day!!
