2015 Year in Review | Families & Seniors

Don’t get me wrong, I love shooting weddings and engagements, but there’s something different and oh so special about the excitement of expecting a new baby in the family or the triumph of finishing high school or college. Getting married is a huge milestone in life, but so are these moments, and I am so thankful that I get to be a part of all of them. =) One of my favorite aspects of a photo session is shooting the moments of interaction between poses, and I think that shows most in my family photography. A surprising number of my favorite family photos are from the in-between-moments when kids are being their goofy selves, and I get a glimpse of what their day-to-day life with each other might be like. The second photo below, one of my absolute favorites, happened when this sweet little girl would absolutely NOT look at the camera but I kept taking pictures anyway.

Sometimes I feel like photography is a super power. I really can freeze time! I can capture the joy, the pride, the excitement, the celebration. In these ‘year in review’ posts I am reminded of what privilege that is.
